Abstract

Hydrogels, due to their tunable physical properties, biocompatibility, and high-water content, have emerged as promising materials for controlled drug delivery in cancer therapy. This chapter explores the application of hydrogel-based drug delivery systems in cancer treatment, emphasizing the mechanisms of controlled drug release, various hydrogel formulations, and recent advancements in hydrogel technologies tailored for oncology. Special attention is given to the incorporation of nanoparticles and stimuli-responsive hydrogels for targeted and effective cancer treatment. By reviewing the current state of research, this chapter provides insights into the therapeutic potential, challenges, and future perspectives of hydrogel-based drug delivery systems in oncology.
